Charisse Russell | Director

Charisse Russell is the founder and director of HKS Russell. A Chartered Accountant with over 17 years’ experience in Audit and Assurance, Business Services, Management Accounting and Taxation.

Charisse completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting & Business right here at James Cook
Cairns campus. Her work experience spans from auditing incorporated associations to SMSF to small and large
companies. She also has extensive background in working with remote and regional communities in the Torres Strait, Cape, NT & WA.

Charisse also provides consulting work in management accounting, compliance, internal controls, system reviews & policies & procedures.

Charisse is passionate about providing her clients viable and sustainable solutions as well as assisting her clients with their compliance obligations and their day to day accounting tasks.

Professional Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting and business
  • Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting [CAANZ]
  • Public Practice Certificate, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.


Aileen Calumpang

Aileen Calumpang
Aileen Calumpang | Associate

Aileen has over 10 years’ experience in the legal industry. She has previous experience in Cottage and Commercial Conveyancing, Family Law, Criminal Law, Wills & Estate Administration & Personal Injuries.

Aileen completed her Diploma of Justice Administration at Tafe College, Cairns.

Whilst having a legal background, Aileen has taken on the role as our firm’s Associate. Aileen assists in the preparation & running of office meetings & team building events, client services & monitor generic practice email addresses, oversee Reception/Front of house functions & weekly payroll processing and PAYG withholding including superannuation.

Aileen has the following attributes:
Preparation of individual tax returns

  • BAS
  • Annual Reports
  • Bookkeeping
  • Experience in Xero, ATO Portal, QBB, MYOB, & HandiSoft modules

Aileen is also responsible for the supervision and training of staff, grant funding & attends networking & training conferences, debtor & WIP management.

Aileen is passionate in providing excellent customer service & enjoys a work/life balance.


Steven Russell

Steven Russell | Practice Manager

Steven has 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, running bars & restaurants. His knowledge in this industry allows us to provide practical & viable solutions to our café, restaurant & hotel clients.

Steven’s role in our firm is to ensure that we have efficient & consistent running of practice operations & workflow, maintain knowledge of government legislation & regulations & assist in developing & maintaining business plans & performance measurements & staff reviews.

Steven possess the following attributes:

  • Preparing & lodging tax returns;
  • BAS/IAS lodgements;
  • Annual Reports;
  • Bookkeeping;
  • Xero Certified & Accredited;
  • Costing analysis.

Steven prides in providing excellent customer service & enjoys fishing & cooking.


Leslie Kendall

Leslie Kendall
Leslie Kendall | Accountant

Leslie completed his Bachelor of Business, Marketing/International Business at James Cook University, Cairns. He has recently completed his Masters in Business, Professional Accounting at Queensland University of Technology.

Leslie’s role within our firm:

  • Assist in monthly management reporting & analysis
  • General accounting duties including budgeting & forecasting
  • Completion & review of statutory returns such as the BAS & FBT returns
  • Assist in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements
  • Upholding & continually improving internal controls

Leslie has a background in Teaching, where he completed his Graduate Diploma in Education at Queensland University of Technology. He is currently a provisional member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Leslie has a passion for health & fitness and is also a Certified Personal Trainer.


Angela Chaplin

Angela Chaplin
Angela Chaplin | Administration Officer

Angela is our Junior Administration Officer. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Business Majoring in Accounting at James Cook University, Cairns.

Angela’s role in our firm:

  • Daily office maintenance;
  • Maintenance of file management system;
  • Communication via email & phone with team members & clients.

Whilst living in Weipa, Angela volunteered to work in local markets, including school markets, school dances & participated in fundraising events & formal ceremonies in Weipa.

Angela enjoys reading, spending time with friends & family, attends yoga classes & enjoys outdoor activities.
